Kata Beach - Phuket - Thailand
Located
on Phuket's lovely west coast, Kata really does have all the
elements
of a perfect holiday. A small village with restaurants,
bars, shops and local color.
Laid back but never boring, Kata is probably the nicest beach
in Phuket.
Kata's main attraction is its curving wide sandy beach, providing
masses of room and crystal clear water to accommodate water sports
like scuba diving, hobble cat sailing, paragliding, snorkeling
and swimming.
June to August is the time of year that the surfers come out.
The southern part of the beach is the best place to watch, or
join in on, the surfing action. Rentals are available for those
who leave their boards at home.
Surrounded
by high mountains which separate it from the other west coast
beaches, Kata retains a more laid back character than neighboring
Patong and more attractions than Karon. Small guesthouses, low
rise resorts, street cafes serving European favorites, local Thai
restaurants, specialist shops and low key music bars line the
narrow main streets.
Kata beach is another world away from Phuket's busy, noisy and
increasingly congested Patong Beach.
Kata is very different from Patong - no discos, or shows, but
there are some excellent restaurants and cafe/bars which open
on to the street with good music, TV and pool tables. Stylish
cocktails or a place to meet? Kata even has its own English pub
serving draught beer.
The bar-beer scene - small type bars with beckoning bar girls
and music guaranteed to make you drink and be merry are worth
a visit at least once.
Hidden
away, Kata also has some excellent Gourmet restaurants with superb
views over the Andaman Sea and food guaranteed to delight the
most discerning palate.
There's no shortage of Thai restaurants, and for international
fare there's Scandinavian, Tex-Mex, Indian and Italian places
to choose from, just to name a few.
Most roadside restaurants display their selection of tiger prawns,
lobsters and plump fish right in front of their shop for all to
see - and for diners to handpick
Steak and seafood seem to be the most common offerings of Kata's
many restaurants.
Continuing on through the village, walkers will find an abundance
of shops to browse in, from souvenir and ready-to-wear outlets,
to 7-11, beauty salons, massage parlors, local mini-marts and
name brand fashion stores.
Beautiful
white sandy beaches, relaxed and easy going, tropical and idyllic
are the words that we would use to describe Kata Beach.
Kata beach is the choice for those people who want to get away
from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, for those who want
to relax and soak up the Andaman Sun, yet, be close enough to
all that Phuket Island has to offer.
The lush tropical gardens and grounds adjacent to the beach create
a peaceful and exotic atmosphere for total relaxation.
Kata retains a village feel and is more peaceful than nearby
Patong and Karon.
